Guinate Tropical Park45,000m2 of gardens, waterfalls and lakes, near the Famara Cliffs, 400 metres above sea level, and home to many tropical birds, animals and even fish.

Guinate Tropical Park is located in the northern part of Lanzarote at the foot of Mount Corona, an extinct volcano which is the highest point of the island.

The park is somewhat a bird watchers paradise, the park is home to a large number of different species of birds ranging from large Flamingos, Ostriches, Cranes and the famous Guinness advertising icon, the Toucan nested around Macaws, Cockatoos, Mandarin & Carolina Ducks.

HornbillMany of the birds live openly in the grounds, such as the Weaver birds which breed naturally in the local environment, surrounded by the gardens of many different varieties of plants and shrubs with labelled information about their particular uses and countries of origin, fantastic for gardeners.
On the hillside overlooking the duck and swan pool is a cactus walkway with a large variety of cactii with a waterfall to the bird pond below where the flamingoes mingle.

Smaller birds like Cardinals, Love birds & Finches live in a large walk-through aviary of some 3200M2, but its not all birds here. Amongst the winged animals are some cute and furry animals, with a small, but varied collection of animals including Meerkats, African Green Monkies, Wallabies, Ring Tailed Lemurs and an African Spurred Tortoises, to name put a few.

A Pink Cockatoo - of course! You will find Parrots and many smaller birds flying freely over the aviary lake, home to of Koi Carp up to a metre in length. There is a daily Parrot show, where the parrots and their friends (macaws and cockatoos) can be seen riding their bicycles on the high wire, driving cars and scooters, adding and taking away numbers and many other tricks. Hot and cold snacks can be served to you as you watch the show or you can relax on the bar terrace which overlooks a large area of the park.

How to get there: the most scenic route would be through Teguise, the old capital of Lanzarote, up through Los Valles to some stunning views of the island and down into the beautiful province of Haria, the valley of a thousand palms. From Haria you take the road to Mirador del Rio where you will see the signs for Guinate and the Park. Alternatively, you can take the ring road around Arrecife to Tahiche, on a new road which will take you to Arrietta, through the quaint village of Maguez and on to the road to Guinate
