Restaurante Amura

Michelin Guide Listed Michelin Guide listed Restaurante Amura is set apart from the other restaurants in Puerto Calero in so many ways. Lanzarote Gay Guide sent a secret spy to review the experience.
As you enter Restaurante Amura, the general atmosphere is relaxed, you’re not rushed to your seat and given a flimsy plastic menu. From the moment we said hello to our waiter, the emphasis was on our relaxation and enjoyment of the meal we were about to enjoy. We weren’t in a tourist seafront restaurant. This was the Amura Restaurant.
From the wine list, we selected some local Lanzarote wine, followed by some light starters. I had the Lobster salad, with wonderful caramelised spring onions and green pistachio. My friend enjoyed his pasta, with mushroom and foie gras.
As we sipped our wine between courses, the view across the marina and out to the Atlantic Ocean at dusk was romance to die for. All the while our unrushed, patient and thoughtful waiter ensured our needs were cared for.
Being alongside a marina, there is a good selection of fish dishes on the menu, along with an excellent array of meat or vegetarian options. Monkfish was for my friend, whilst I had a vegetable risotto with rabbit loins. The rabbit didn’t taste like chicken at all.
As we whiled away our second bottle of local wine, deserts included a traditional egg mousse, ‘Huevos Moles’, or caramelised brioche, or even mascarpone zagablione. Of course, the ‘traditional’ deserts such as cheesecake or chocolate cake with hints of vanilla and coffee, are available.
At the end of the evening, we ventured back up into Puerto Calero, and into our taxi home.
Restaurante Amura worked hard to maintain its Michelin Guide status, but that’s not the reason to go. For a romantic meal, or a small gathering to mark an occasion, the prices are incredibly reasonable, the staff are so attentive the restaurant runs like clockwork. It’s almost theraputic – a visit to Amura leaves you feeling refreshed and wholly satisfied.
A three course meal for two would start at around 90€ – including a pleasant local wine.
